Representatives Coghill, Crawford, Fairclough, Foster, Gardner, Gatto, Holmes, and Samuels had been excused from a call of the House today. Representative Johansen was absent and his presence was noted later. Representatives Hawker, Kelly, and Nelson were absent. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, the Reverend Dr. Scott Williamson of Glacier Valley Baptist Church. Representative LeDoux moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. With the deepest respect for the religious beliefs of all Alaskans, I offer the following prayer. Dear Father: You who made the world and all that is in it, I give you thanks for this day. This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. Thank you for the privilege of praying for this House and those who serve here. The ancient words tell us, "there is no authority except that which God has established" and to pray for "all those in authority." I ask that each of these men and women reflect that they are here at a divinely appointed time. Part of the reason they are 2008-03-05 House Journal Page 2186 in this place is because you have led them here. Remind us that history moves at the direction of a sovereign God. You allow us to take part in that which you are doing on the earth and in this state. Direct each representative here to be a good steward of the power that you have given. May they wield that power with an attitude of service toward the citizens of Alaska. Help them listen to others with respect; assist them to stand strong for their ideals and principles when there is opposition; guide them in finding compromise when needed; strengthen them to make good decisions when all discussion is finished. Let them hear from their constituents a word of "well done good and faithful servant." I ask these things in the name of my Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Neuman. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Dahlstrom, Acting Majority Leader, moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the 50th legislative day be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk.
