With deepest respect for the religious beliefs of all Alaskans, I offer the following prayer. There is a popular hymn that goes, in part: God of all hopefulness, God of all joy; Whose heart ever child-like, no cares can destroy; Be Thou at our waking, and give us we pray, Thy grace in our hearts at the break of the day. O God, the very author and source of both hope and joy, we ask you to be with us at the beginning of this day. Instill within us that child-like heart that we may see with the clear eyes of a child, trust as a child, and take joy in the wonder of 2008-02-29 House Journal Page 2114 life as a child. Give your grace to our minds and to our hands that we may also, with the vigor and purpose of youth, set to work for the benefit and advancement of the people of this great land that hope and joy may ever resound throughout its wondrous expanse. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Edgmon.
