Senators Cowdery, Kookesh were absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Bianca Carpeneti. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. O God, You have bound us together in a common life. Help us, in the midst of our struggles for justice and truth, to confront one another without hatred or bitterness, and to work together with mutual patience and respect. Amen. Senator Dyson led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Gary Stevens moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the twenty-seventh legislative day be approved as certified by the Secretary. Murkowski Governor Messages from the House Message dated August 8 was received, stating: The House of Representatives respectfully invites the Senate to a Joint Session of the Twenty-fourth Alaska Legislature at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9 to hear Governor Murkowski's response to the oil pipeline shutdown by British Petroleum. Unfinished Business Senator French moved and asked unanimous consent to be excused from a call of the Senate from August 11 through August 14. Without objection, Senator French was excused. Senators Davis, Hoffman, Gary Stevens moved and asked unanimous consent to be excused from a call of the Senate from August 11 through August 17. Adjournment Senator Gary Stevens moved and asked unanimous consent that the Senate stand in adjournment until 11:00 a.m., August 9, 2006.
