The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Jesse Perry of the Northern Light United Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. In whatever spiritual traditions we have been honored to practice, let us come together as I lead us in prayer: God of this great day, We seek Your wisdom through praise. Whenever we are able to step outside the demands of life; Whenever we are able to step back from our work, and to rest in Your pleasant care; Then, O God, do our hearts learn praise and thanksgiving, Then do we remember the durable hope that sustains this world, The hope that cannot die, for it does not depend on anything we do. You, O God, who are the True Teacher of all humanity, teach us Your praise. 2006-02-09 Senate Journal Page 2118 As a citizen of the State of Alaska, I give thanks for this body of Senators: For Senators Ben and Gary Stevens; For Senators Dyson, Cowdery, and Huggins; For Senators French, Therriault, Bunde, and Green; For Senators Wilken, Hoffman, and Davis; For Senators Olson and Guess, and Elton and Kookesh; For Senators Wagoner and Stedman, and For Senators Seekins and Ellis. Grant them, O God, and grant all who serve and support their work, Hearts filled with joy; May they always be thankful for their lives, their liberties, and their loves. May they always find friends nearby, and In the eyes of their enemies, may they always see Your divine spark. What is hard for us, O God, is easy for You, so Teach us Your ways. Make our yokes easy, and our burdens light. Temper the deep seriousness of our labors with laughter, For while we love to be needed, we admit, for this moment, our grown-up need to be loved as children. Unite us in joy, in justice, and in thanksgiving for your truth, For truly, we have every reason to trust, and to rest, in You. In praise we pray, Amen. Senator Wilken led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Gary Stevens moved and asked unanimous consent that the journals for the thirty-first legislative day and House and Senate Joint Journal Supplement No. 11 be approved as certified by the Secretary.
