Senator Davis was absent. Senator Ben Stevens moved and asked unanimous consent that Senator Davis be excused from a call of the Senate. Without objection, Senator Davis was excused. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Thomas Dahl of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Almighty God, source of all good will, author of justice, champion of liberty, we pray this day for the people of Alaska. Give us a vision of Your great future, and the grace and the will to see this land as Your gift to us, for today and tomorrows without end. Save us from thinking only of ourselves. Where divisions and selfishness have blinded us, take the scales from our eyes and help us to see the new possibilities for the good and just future that You most surely have for us. We are so grateful for this land. Help us to be good stewards in our use of it. We pray especially this day for those who have been elected to serve You and Your people as Senators. We are grateful for their time and their commitment, and we pray for them, each one. Be their vision. Nudge them to high resolve. Poke them to think and act beyond their limits. Help them to expect greatness from themselves and from each other, and then give them the strength and wisdom to work for it. Amen. 2004-01-20 Senate Journal Page 1962 Senator Ben Stevens led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
