Senators Dyson, Hoffman were excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Dr. Paul Beran of the Resurrection Lutheran Church. Senator Olson moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. I invite you into a time of prayer and reflection. Let us pray. Gracious God, You are from everlasting to everlasting. You allot to us the breath of life for a limited span of years. Thank You for the gift of this day with its lengthening light and sunshine; with its responsibilities entrusted to us; and with its opportunities to serve and make an uplifting difference in the lives of many Alaskans. We need Your help to use this day rightly lest when the sun sets we have wasted the gift of this time. Help us to expand our horizons as we probe for truth. Give us sensitivity and courage to listen and question. Sharpen our inner vision to see and hear those who are passed by, forgotten; and strengthen our integrity to do the right. We shall give You the praise. This I ask in the name of Jesus the Christ, Who came not to be served, but to serve. Amen. 2003-04-02 Senate Journal Page 0660 Senator Gary Stevens led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
