In deepest respect for the religious beliefs of each person here, I invite you into a time of prayer and reflection. Let us pray. Dear God of Patience and Understanding, Gathered in this room are leaders who represent the diversity of our state of Alaska. There are strong opinions and diverse reactions that both tear down and build up each person. Help common ground to be found in the upcoming struggles and decisions. Controversy, differences of philosophy and opinion, and our intellectual abilities and life experiences can create an impatience that hinders what needs to be accomplished. 2003-02-18 House Journal Page 0228 Bless all who are gathered with the gift of a patient heart. By its very nature, patience does not lose heart or courage. Proverbs 25:15 says of patience: "With patience a ruler may be persuaded, and a soft tongue can break bones." May the gift of patience be a part of this session's agenda. In the midst of the tough realities of this session, may wisdom, caring, patience, and compassion be reflected in the decisions made that impact this diverse and wonderful state we call home! In Your Holy Name, Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Samuels.
