Representatives Holm, McGuire, Meyer, and Wolf had been previously excused from a call of the House today. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, The Reverend Ron Covey of the Douglas Community United Methodist Church. Mr. Speaker, Honorable Representatives, members of the staff, distinguished guests, and visitors: with deepest respect for the faith traditions of all Alaskans, may we take this moment of prayer. Let us pray. Creator God, We return to our tasks with hearts and spirits weighed down by the tragic event our nation has suffered. In the quiet of our hearts we lift up to You the families, friends, and co-workers of the crew of the space shuttle Columbia. Deliver them and our whole country, we pray, from deep grief and the depths of sorrow. Help us honor these brave men and women by the continuance of our daily life and duty. Guide us as we come with new resolve and dedication to be faithful representatives of our great state and to act with wisdom and cooperation for the good of all its people. Amen. 2003-02-03 House Journal Page 0116 The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Heinze.
