Representatives Croft, Kott, Masek, McGuire, Moses, Mulder, and Williams were absent and their presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by Mr. O. P. Sharma. Representative Davies moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. Mr. Speaker, Representatives, and all present here, I feel honored to share with you the thoughtful words of a great philosopher-saint, Sri Aurobindo, who was the spiritual master of Miss Margaret Woodrow Wilson, the daughter of the Nobel Peace Prize winner American President Woodrow Wilson. Margaret Wilson spent the last ten years of her life in the ashram of Sri Aurobindo at Pondicherry. In her letter from New York dated March 3, 1936, Margaret had written: "Dear Sri Aurobindo, Your essays on the Gita have been a source of help and inspiration to me ever since the summer of 1932, when first I discovered them. Now I am writing to you to ask you humbly for direct help and inspiration. I know no one in this country to whom I can confidently turn, because I know of no one who has had illumination, or even a measure of realization. The strongest desire of my heart is to reach the only goal worth striving for, the consciousness of union with the Highest. And so I implore you, dear Master, to show me the way." 2002-05-07 House Journal Page 3414 In reply, Sri Aurobindo wrote: "To find the Divine is indeed the first reason for seeking the spiritual Truth and the spiritual life. It is the one thing indispensable and all the rest is nothing without it. The Divine once found, to manifest Him - that is, first of all to transform one's own limited consciousness into the Divine Consciousness, to live in the infinite Peace, Light, Love, Strength, Bliss, to become that in one's initial nature, and, as a consequence, to be its vessel, channel, instrument in one's active nature." I now read the inspiring words and invocation of another illumined, fully self-realized being, The Mother, a lifetime collaborator in Sri Aurobindo's Divine Dispensation: "True spirituality is not to renounce life, but to make life perfect with a Divine Perfection. The world is fighting for its spiritual life menaced by the rush of hostile and undivine forces. Lord, we aspire to be Thy valiant warriors so that Thy glory may manifest upon the earth." Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Morgan. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative James moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the 113th legislative day be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk. There being no objection, it was so ordered.
