Representative Ogan was excused from a call of the House today due to illness. Representatives Guess and Kerttula were absent and their presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by the Reverend Jim Hardenbrook, Chaplain, Idaho State House of Representatives. Representative Hudson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: When Jesus had returned from praying one of his disciples asked him, "Lord, teach us to pray." (Luke 11:1) O Lord, I thank You for the privilege of leading this Body in prayer every morning this week. And I thank You that I have not been alone in this great task, but that throughout this state humble people have taken time at their breakfast table or at night at their bedside to pray for these representatives. How many times, Lord, have You lightened a burden, softened a word, changed a mind, given endurance . . . all because we prayed? How many times, Lord, have You guided our thinking, disciplined our anger, bestowed an added measure of wisdom . . . all because we prayed? We come with minds and desks that are cluttered with messages. It is good that someone had the wisdom to insert this time in the agenda to hear from You. 2001-04-20 House Journal Page 1082 Forgive us when we have talked too much and thought too little. Forgive us when we have confused mountains with molehills, when we have taken our public work too seriously and our private behavior too frivolously, when we have recognized our need and been unwilling to ask for help. We acknowledge our need and seek Your help for today's work. Lord, teach us to pray and to pray well. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Green. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative James moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the 102nd legislative day be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk. There being no objection, it was so ordered.
