The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Robin Walz of the Juneau Friends Meeting. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. The theme of todays prayer is community. The reading comes from John Woolman (1754), a Quaker who helped establish the Society of Friends in America in the 18th century. The reading will be followed by a few moments of quiet reflection. To consider mankind as other than brethren, to think favours are peculiar to one nation and exclude others, plainly supposes a darkness in the understanding. For as Gods love is universal, so where the mind is sufficiently influenced by it, it begets a likeness of itself and the heart is enlarged toward all men. Amen. Senator Leman led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. 2895 2000-04-06 Senate Journal Page 2896 Reconsideration of House Bills HB 312 Senator Parnell requested that the reconsideration on SENATE CS FOR CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 312(FIN) be taken up.
