The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, The Reverend Dr. Robert D. Nicholson, of Chapel by the Lake. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Let us pray. Without objection, the Senate recessed at 11:18 a.m. After Recess Joint Session in the House Speaker Porter called the House to order and in accordance with Uniform Rule 51 turned the gavel over to President Pearce, who called the Joint Session to order at 7:01 p.m. The purpose of the Joint Session was to hear the Honorable Tony Knowles, Governor, deliver his combined State of the State and State of the Budget address. Senator Mackie moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the Senate be waived and all members be shown as present. Without objection, it was so ordered. Representative Green moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the House be waived and all members be shown as present. Without objection, it was so ordered. President Pearce introduced the First Lady of Alaska Susan Knowles and the Knowles children, Sara and Luke. The Senate Sergeant at Arms, Ian Fisk, announced the Governors entrance to the House Chamber. The Honorable Tony Knowles was escorted to the rostrum. President Pearce introduced The Honorable Fran Ulmer, Lieutenant Governor, and welcomed the Governor. Governor Knowles delivered his address. This address appears in House and Senate Joint Journal Supplement No.8. Following his address, the Governor received a standing ovation and was escorted from the chamber by Senator Phillips and Representative Grussendorf. Senator Mackie moved and asked unanimous consent that the Joint Session stand in adjournment. Without objection, President Pearce adjourned the Joint Session at 7:52 p.m. After Recess In the Senate The Senate reconvened at 7:54 p.m. Adjournment Senator Ellis moved and asked unanimous consent that the Senate stand in adjournment until 11:00 a.m., January 13, 2000.
