Senator Taylor was excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Bishop Michael Warfel of the Roman Catholic Church, Diocese of Juneau. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Once, a wren asked a wild dove if she knew the weight of a snowflake. Nothing more than nothing, responded the wild dove. The wren, noting that the wild dove was mistaken said, Once, I sat on a branch of a fir, close to its trunk, when it began to snow very lightly. I counted the snow flakes landing on a branch. Their number was exactly three million, seven hundred forty-one thousand, nine hundred fifty-two. When the next snowflake dropped on the branch -- nothing more than nothing as you say -- the branch broke off. Good and gracious God, too often we are tempted to think that our efforts, even our best efforts, may seem too insignificant to make a difference. Bless these Senators with the knowledge of the difference they can and do make for our State. Guide and direct them in their deliberations and make them wise stewards of the resources entrusted to them, that the decisions they make will be sound ones. Let what they do together as a body truly make a difference for the well being of all Alaskans. Amen. 323 1999-02-22 Senate Journal Page 0324 Senator Ward led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
