Representative Barnes was excused from a call of the House today due to illness. Representatives Foster and Kerttula had been previously excused from a call of the House today. Representatives Halcro and Mulder were absent and their presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by Pastor Pat Brayton of the Valley Chapel. Representative Hudson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. (Psalms 127:1) Heavenly Father, we come to You in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. May we acknowledge our need of You and that, without Your grace, we are helpless to change our world or better our lives. Give us, today, the courage to follow You and implement Your will even in the face of human opposition. May we represent truth and justice and uphold Your righteous standard in all of our actions and relationships. As we strive for compromise on the issues that concern us, please protect us from the temptation to compromise our principles or our integrity. Let the government here represented be one worthy of the trust granted to it. Let these, 2000-02-23 House Journal Page 2266 our representatives, be guided by Your hand; and may our state and nation be preserved in the honor that is always granted to those who honor You. Be glorified, Oh God, through these men and women that You have brought into such a great responsibility. May they know Your love and feel Your presence with them in great blessing, and may they respond to You in faith. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative James.
