Representatives Hudson and Kohring were absent and their presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain Designee, Representative Green. Representative Kott moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: Almighty, yet loving and compassionate Creator God. As the great Abraham Lincoln said in his famous Gettysburg address, referring to strong differences between factions of our great country, "Now we are engaged in a civil war, testing whether [ourá nation can long endure." Lord God, I pray that this subsistence issue that has been so divisive among the peoples of this great state, does not become a war, testing whether we can long endure. Rather, dear Heavenly Father, please send Your Holy Spirit to dwell within us. Guide us to accept each others views graciously, to be tolerant and respectful of our individuality; that precious commodity that You have given each of us and that makes each of us individuals. 1999-09-25 House Journal Page 1822 Dear God, please lead us to a fair and just conclusion of this subsistence issue. To a conclusion from which all Alaska can benefit, and that our future generations will be able to enjoy. We ask this in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Berkowitz.
