Senators Donley, Ellis, Halford, Kelly, Leman were excused from a call of the Senate. Senators Mackie, Phillips were absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Senator Green. Senator Duncan moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Our Dear Heavenly Father, As we come to the end of this first week of this new Legislative Session, we ask that You be with us. Give us the patience to deliberate carefully and judiciously in the future. Give us the strength to continue to take in all the information and make good decisions. Be with us as we go through this next period of time. Be with our friends who are out of town and are now traveling and bring them safely back. Keep us in the palm of Your hand and keep us safe. We ask these things in Christ's name. Amen. Senator Ward led the Senate in the pledge of allegiance. MESSAGES FROM THE HOUSE Messages dated January 9 and January 15 were read stating: The House of Representatives respectfully invites the Senate to a Joint Session of the Twentieth Alaska Legislature at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 3 for the purpose of hearing an address by United States Senator Frank Murkowski and at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 25 for the purpose of hearing a State of the Judiciary address by Chief Justice Allen Compton. Senator Taylor moved and asked unanimous consent that the Senate accept the House invitations to meet in Joint Session. Without objection, it was so ordered.
