Representative Nicholia had been previously excused from a call of the House today. Representatives Hanley and Kott were absent and their presence was noted later. Representative Vezey was absent. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Leon Thompson of the Chapel by the Lake Presbyterian Church. Representative Hudson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: "God of all ages, We come before You this morning calling upon Your presence before this body. Give us this day clear minds, energetic bodies, good imaginations, creative hearts, clarity in decisions, and patient spirits. Our hearts are heavy this morning as we mourn the death of Joe Ambrose. We pray for his family and friends and for Senator Robin Taylor and his staff. Let us take a few moments of silence in recognition of Joe Ambrose. As we go about our business this day help us to be sensitive to those within our families, co-workers, people we pass in the hallways, even people with whom we disagree. 1998-03-19 House Journal Page 2656 There are important decisions to be made during this session and lots of hard work ahead. There are challenges within this great land that stand before us. May we always see the challenges as opportunities to bring about good. May the legislators in the House and Senate work carefully and energetically to bring about what is right and just. Be with our nation this day in the midst of the difficulties she faces. Help each of us to stand upright and firm in the midst of the trials of life sorting out fact from rumor. Show us Your way and help us to walk in it. We pray this to the One who created us and sustains us through all of life. Amen." The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Davies. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Porter moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the 66th legislative day and House & Senate Joint Journal Supplement No. 16 be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk.
