Representative Kott had been previously excused from a call of the House today. Representative Ivan was excused due to illness. Representatives Berkowitz, Hanley and Rokeberg were absent and their presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Joanne Erskine, Second Reader of the Christian Science Church. Representative Hudson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: "Paul writes in his First Epistle to the Corinthians, 'Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.' Dear Heavenly Father, Since You are the great and only true Mind, this perfect joining together of Your servants is not a lofty unattainable. It is the natural outcome of our all being Your children. We know that Your decrees are righteous and impartial judgment. They bless everyone, never some more than others. As we take up our work today, let us remember Your gift to us of the wisdom and understanding to put into effect that same righteous judgment in human affairs. 1998-03-11 House Journal Page 2586 Let us not be deceived into believing that there are different kinds of men, with different and competing interests, among whom divisions may arise. Looking through the lens of love, let us see only one kind, the children of God. Of God's man, we may easily all speak the same thing. And as we labor to meld any divisiveness into unity, help us also to see beyond the picture of a limited pie to be sliced up among contenders. Help us to perceive, in some measure, the unlimited affluence of our God, and the unlimited nature of his blessings to all. For truly, there is sufficiency for all. For the unlimited nature of Your blessings, we joyously thank Thee, Father. Amen." The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Therriault. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Porter moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the 57th and 58th legislative days be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk. There being no objection, it was so ordered.
