Representative Nicholia was excused due to illness. Representatives Bunde, Hanley, Ivan, James and Therriault were absent and their presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Brian Ewing of the Calvary Fellowship. Representative Martin moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: Let us bow our heads in prayer, Lord, You taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven, whose name is holy. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. And then You said we should ask You to give us this day the bread we need and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lord, if I prayed what was really in my heart, I would probably say, God, give me everything I ask for so that I have need of no one and no thing. At the heart of my desire for more and bigger and better is really just a distrust of Your ability to give me daily what is needed. And at the heart of unforgiveness and bitterness toward others is a distrust in Your forgiveness and Your ability to forgive me. I hold onto my possessions and things and grasp for more and more and I store up unforgiveness for those who have wronged me. 1997-03-26 House Journal Page 0844 Lord, today I pray, release us from both of these burdens so that we may travel lightly and learn the secret that King David learned while he was still simply a shepherd boy and sang, the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. Lord, we ask this, that You free us up. In Jesus name, we pray. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Mulder.
