God of all Compassion and Mercy, Hear our prayer this morning, O God, as we pause to remember those whose stories we read in the newspapers: young men who have been killed while in service for our country, women and children and men in countries far away whose lives have been lost in civil unrest. Forgive us when we read the papers with uncaring eyes and unfeeling hearts. With so great need in so many parts of the world, make us grateful for what we have and lead us and guide us as we deliberate proceedings here that affect so many lives around us.
