00 HOUSE BILL NO. 280 01 "An Act relating to public school students who are deaf or hard of hearing." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 14.30.278 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 04 (b) An individualized education program for a child with a disability who is 05 deaf or hard of hearing must include a language and communication plan that 06 (1) identifies the primary language or method of communication 07 chosen by the child; 08 (2) provides opportunities for direct communication with peers and 09 professional personnel in the primary language or method of communication chosen 10 by the child; 11 (3) describes the educational options available to the child; 12 (4) describes the necessary qualifications, including fluency in the 13 primary language or method of communication chosen by the child, of the teacher and 14 other professional personnel who will implement the program for the child; 15 (5) addresses access limitations to academic instruction, school
01 services, and extracurricular activities for the child; 02 (6) provides for assistive devices and services; and 03 (7) requires accommodations for the child in communications with, 04 and the physical environment of, the school.
