00 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 26 01 Declaring February 6, 2006, Ronald Reagan Day in Alaska. 02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 WHEREAS President Ronald Wilson Reagan was a man of humble background who 04 worked throughout his life serving freedom and advancing the public good; he was employed 05 as an entertainer, a union leader, and a corporate spokesperson, and served as the Governor of 06 the State of California and the President of the United States; and 07 WHEREAS Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction for two terms as the 08 40th President of the United States; for his second term he earned the confidence of three- 09 fifths of the electorate and was victorious in 49 of the 50 states in the general election, a 10 record unsurpassed in the history of American presidential elections; and 11 WHEREAS, in 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated president, he inherited a 12 disillusioned nation that was shackled by rampant inflation and high unemployment; and 13 WHEREAS, during Ronald Reagan's presidency, he worked in a bipartisan manner to 14 enact his bold agenda of restoring accountability and common sense to government, and this 15 led to an unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions of Americans; and 16 WHEREAS Ronald Reagan's commitment to an active social policy agenda for the

01 nation's children helped lower crime and drug use in the nation's neighborhoods; and 02 WHEREAS Ronald Reagan's commitment to the nation's armed forces contributed to 03 the restoration of pride in America, American values, and those values cherished by the free 04 world, and prepared America's armed forces to meet the challenges of the 21st Century; and 05 WHEREAS Ronald Reagan's vision of peace through strength led to the end of the 06 Cold War and the ultimate demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for 07 millions of people; and 08 WHEREAS February 6, 2006, will be the 95th anniversary of Ronald Reagan's birth, 09 and the second anniversary of his birth since his passing; 10 BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Alaska State Legislature declares February 6, 2006, 11 to be Ronald Reagan Day in Alaska and urges all the citizens of Alaska to recognize this 12 event and participate in appropriate observances of the day.
