00SPONSOR SUBSTITUTE FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 379 01 "An Act relating to credited service under the public employees' retirement system 02 for peace officers and fire fighters on leave without pay or receiving workers' 03 compensation benefits because of certain on-the-job injuries." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. AS 39.35.370 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 06  (g) When a member who was employed as a peace officer or fire fighter in the 07 public employees' retirement system applies for appointment to retirement, the member 08 may claim credited service for days that the member was employed as a peace officer 09 or fire fighter and was on leave-without-pay status because of a physical injury 10 incurred while on the job, or was not employed and was receiving workers' 11 compensation benefits under AS 23.30 because of a physical injury incurred while on 12 the job, as a peace officer or fire fighter. When the member claims this credited 13 service, an indebtedness of the member to the system shall be established. The 14 indebtedness is equal to the full actuarial cost of receiving the credited service. Any

01 outstanding indebtedness that exists at the time the member is appointed to retirement 02 will require an actuarial adjustment to the benefits payable based upon the credited 03 service.
