00HOUSE BILL NO. 133 01 "An Act relating to regulation of architects, engineers, and land surveyors; 02 extending the termination date of the State Board of Registration for Architects, 03 Engineers, and Land Surveyors; and providing for an effective date." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. AS 08.03.010(c)(3) is amended to read: 06  (3) State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land 07 Surveyors (AS 08.48.011) -- June 30, 2003 [1997]; 08 * Sec. 2. AS 08.48.011(b) is amended to read: 09  (b) The board consists of nine members appointed by the governor having the 10 qualifications as set out in AS 08.48.031. The board consists of two civil engineers, 11 one land surveyor, three [ONE MINING ENGINEER, TWO] engineers from other 12 branches of the profession of engineering, two architects, and one public member. 13 * Sec. 3. AS 08.48.091 is amended to read: 14  Sec. 08.48.091. Written examinations. Written examinations shall be held

01 at least twice each year at places determined by the board unless the examination 02 administered by the board is a national examination prepared only once each year, in 03 which case the examination shall be held at least once each year. A candidate failing 04 an examination may apply for reexamination. The board shall approve an 05 application for reexamination if 06  (1) not more than five years have elapsed from the date of the 07 candidate's first examination; or 08  (2) the candidate demonstrates to the satisfaction of the board that 09 the candidate has completed additional relevant training or education since the 10 candidate's most recent failure to pass the examination. 11 * Sec. 4. AS 08.48.191(a) is amended to read: 12  (a) A person holding a certificate of registration authorizing the person to 13 practice architecture in another jurisdiction and [A STATE, TERRITORY, OR 14 POSSESSION OF THE UNITED STATES, THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, OR A 15 FOREIGN COUNTRY, OR] holding a certificate of qualification issued by the 16 National Council of Architectural Registration Board [,] that [, IN THE OPINION OF 17 THE BOARD,] meets the requirements of the state board as established in 18 regulations [THIS CHAPTER, BASED ON VERIFIED EVIDENCE,] may, upon 19 application, be registered in accordance with the regulations of the board. 20 * Sec. 5. AS 08.48.071(c)(1) and 08.48.071(c)(2) are repealed. 21 * Sec. 6. This Act takes effect July 1, 1997.
