00SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 7                                                                                      
01 Establishing February 12 - 18 as Peaceful Solutions Week.                                                               
02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
03  WHEREAS there are increasing instances of violence and vandalism in our schools                                        
04 and in the communities around the state; and                                                                            
05  WHEREAS schools exist in most communities throughout the state and are a focus                                         
06 of community activities; and                                                                                            
07  WHEREAS all residents of the state have a responsibility to guide students in                                          
08 appropriate behavior; and                                                                                               
09  WHEREAS a statewide campaign to promote safe schools and safe communities                                              
10 would be appropriate during the week that Valentine's Day occurs; and                                                   
11  WHEREAS by creating an awareness at an early age of unacceptable behavior and                                          
12 appropriate behavior, problem behavior can be redirected; and                                                           
13  WHEREAS a statewide effort is necessary to halt growing problems of violence and                                       
14 vandalism among youth in the state;                                                                                     

01  BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature hereby declares that the week                                         
02 of February 12 - 18 shall be known as Peaceful Solutions Week; and be it                                                
03  FURTHER RESOLVED that all school boards in the state are urged to work together                                        
04 to launch a statewide effort to increase safety awareness in our schools and communities                                
05 throughout the state.                                                                                                   
06  COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to each school board and municipality in the                                   
07 state.
