00SENATE BILL NO. 134 01 "An Act establishing an endowment for the Robert B. Atwood journalism chair 02 at the University of Alaska Anchorage; and providing for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 14.40 is amended by adding a new section to read: 05 Sec. 14.40.286. ENDOWMENT FOR JOURNALISM. (a) The Board of 06 Regents shall establish an endowment for the Robert B. Atwood Chair of Journalism 07 at the University of Alaska Anchorage. The endowment shall consist of appropriations 08 that shall be matched with contributions from other sources. The endowment shall be 09 managed as a perpetual trust. The income of the endowment shall be used to pay the 10 salary and related expenses of the person appointed under (b) of this section for 11 teaching in the field of journalism. 12 (b) The chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage shall appoint a 13 person who is distinguished in one or more print or broadcast disciplines to be paid 14 from the income of the endowment established under (a) of this section. The tenure
01 and the duties of the appointee shall be established by an agreement between the 02 chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage and the Atwood Foundation. 03 * Sec. 2. This Act takes effect July 1, 1995.
