00HOUSE BILL NO. 18                                                                                                       
01 "An Act amending the statute of limitations applicable to civil actions brought                                         
02 against peace officers and coroners."                                                                                   
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 09.10.070 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                            
05  (b)  A person may not bring an action against a peace officer or coroner upon                                         
06 a liability incurred by the doing of an act in an official capacity or by the omission of                               
07 an official duty, including the nonpayment of money collected upon an execution,                                        
08 unless brought within two years.   This subsection does not apply to an action for an                                   
09 escape.                                                                                                                 
10    * Sec. 2.  AS 09.10.060(a) is repealed.                                                                              
11    * Sec. 3.  APPLICABILITY.  This Act applies to civil actions commenced on or after the                               
12 effective date of this Act regardless of when the cause of action may have arisen.
