01 "An Act relating to telephone caller identification; and providing for an effective                                     
02 date."                                                                                                                  
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 42.05 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                   
05  Sec. 42.05.335.  CALLER IDENTIFICATION SERVICES AND CALL                                                              
06 BLOCKING.  (a)  A telephone utility may not offer a caller identification service                                       
07 unless the utility also offers customers, without charge to the customer, service that                                  
08 prevents the subscriber who has a caller identification service from reading the number                                 
09 of the calling party on a per line and per call basis.                                                                  
10  (b)  In this section, "caller identification" means a display unit that allows a                                      
11 subscriber to read the telephone number of a calling party.                                                             
12    * Sec. 2.  This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
