OTHER :My passion for doing good in the world stems from the love and support given to me and my family by the community of Nome.
STATEMENT :As a young community advocate, I learned early the importance of community engagement, helping others in need, and providing tools for the next generation to succeed. After high school, I moved from Nome to Anchorage to attend UAA. My time at UAA was profound as I served four years as the Concert Board Chair and helped establish the recycling club. Later I pursued a master's degree through the Peace Corps Master's International Program at UAF, serving in Azerbaijan while writing my master's thesis. After 20 years advocating for Alaskans' nonprofits, I joined Senator Tom Begich's legislative office as Policy Director. During my time in Juneau, I successfully carried several pieces of legislation, including expanding universal, voluntary pre-K across Alaska, protecting renters and homeowners from predatory insurance practices, and recognizing the resiliency and continued saliency of the Alaska constitution. My priorities include Alaskans' right to privacy, equity and inclusion, voting rights, renewable energy, fair wages, public health, affordable housing, public education, fiscal stability, public safety, and growing local leaders. My background advocating for community and my ability to successfully carry transformational policy through the legislative process proves I'm ready and prepared to work hard for Alaskans starting on Day 1. I would be honored by your vote to serve as the State Senator for downtown Anchorage, Fairview, South Addition, North Star, Eastridge, Government Hill, JBER, Tikahtnu, and Northeast Muldoon.
