Senator George Rauscher :
George Rauscher moved to Alaska in the late 1970s and began his career in the oil fields. When the industry slowed in the mid-1980s, he entered a carpenter apprenticeship and later founded his own construction business in 1992, splitting time between summer contracts and winter oil field work.

In 2006, he was elected to the Sutton Community Council, later serving as its president. During that time, he carried a petition door-to-door in support of coal development and cast the deciding vote to secure the community’s backing for coal mining to return to Sutton through Usibelli’s interest in the Wishbone area.

Beyond public service, Rauscher has dedicated time to missionary work abroad in Haiti, Sumatra, Jakarta, and Russia, as well as locally with Franklin Graham.

Elected to the Alaska State House in 2017, Rauscher spent his first six years in the minority yet succeeded in passing two bills during his first session. Over nine years of service, he has authored and passed nine bills, and coauthored, amended, or guided many others. He has served on the House Special Committee on Energy, Resources, and Military & Veterans Affairs, chairing the Energy Committee and serving as Vice Chair of Resources from 2022 to 2024. He also served as Majority Whip.

Rauscher received the distinguished APA Public Service Award for his commitment to protecting the interests of electric energy consumers. He was appointed by the Governor to the Sustainable Energy Task Force, which met for more than 180 hours and produced the Energy Security Task Force Report. He later co-chaired the Legislative Food Security Task Force. He also represents the Alaska State House on the Energy Council, which meets quarterly across the nation, and co-chairs the Food and Farm Caucus.

He has been active in local boards and civic bodies, including the Alpine Road Service Advisory Board, MatSu Borough Road Service Advisory Board, Alpine Civic Club, and Jonesville / Slipper Lake Action Committee.

In addition, Rauscher has been active in the Legislative Prayer Caucus and Legislative Prison Ministry for nine years, now chairing both during session. His conservative record has earned him a lifetime 92% rating with CPAC, along with recognition at CPAC Tennessee for his consistent voting record.

He was appointed to the State Senate on November 28, 2025, and now serves on Senate Resources, Senate Transportation and Joint Armed Services.
