2025-2026 Representative Oath Taken December 30, 2025

BIO:

Representative Steve St. Clair was born and raised in Washington State and joined the United States Army as a Military Policeman immediately after high school. He deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and was later stationed at Fort Huachuca, where he met his wife, Abby. He went on to serve for 20 years in a variety of leadership roles in the United States and overseas, including a 2004 deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, retiring in 2010 as a First Sergeant (E 8).

Before retiring from the Army, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Management from Touro University International (TUI) and later completed a Master of Business Administration from TUI. After military service, he worked in information technology for a local credit union in Alaska and became active in conservative politics, serving in organizations such as Conservative Patriots Group (CPG), the Alaska Republican Assembly, United for Liberty, and Americans for Prosperity, including a term as President and CEO of CPG.

In 2016, he co authored United for Liberty’s budget book, outlining a detailed plan to reduce the State of Alaska’s budget by 1.5 billion dollars over three years through targeted reductions rather than broad, unallocated cuts. That same year, he ran for the Alaska State Senate, motivated by opposition to SB 91, the omnibus crime bill, and concerns over inaccurate information being shared about the state budget.

Representative St. Clair joined the Alaska Legislature in 2017 as legislative staff to Representative Cathy Tilton, spending six years learning the legislative process and working extensively on Alaska’s budget, and later served as Chief of Staff to Representative Thomas Baker in 2023.

Now as a legislator, Rep. St. Clair is a member of the House Community and Regional Affairs, Transportation, and State Affairs standing committees, along with five finance subcommittees to scrutinize the budget and look for reductions and efficiencies. Anyone who knows Steve, knows that he is a numbers guy who wants to see the spreadsheets before anything else and is dedicated to help the state right its fiscal ship that is long overdue.
