SENATE RULES COMMITTEE Second Special Session September 27, 1999 1:15 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT Senator Tim Kelly, Chair Senator Loren Leman, Vice Chair Senator Mike Miller Senator Drue Pearce Senator Johnny Ellis MEMBERS ABSENT None COMMITTEE CALENDAR Replacement of Nancy Quinto, Senate Secretary, upon her retirement. ACTION NARRATIVE TAPE 99-14, SIDE A CHAIRMAN KELLY called the Senate Rules Committee meeting to order at 1:15 p.m. Present were Senators Leman, Kelly, Miller and Ellis. CHAIRMAN KELLY informed committee members that Nancy Quinto, Senate Secretary, plans to retire at the end of November. According to the Executive Director of the Legislative Affairs Agency, the vacancy does not have to be advertised. Heidi Vogel, who has worked for the Legislature for seven years, has applied for the position. SENATOR LEMAN moved to submit the name of Heidi Vogel to the full Senate for consideration as the new Senate Secretary. SENATOR ELLIS asked if Ms. Vogel has been interviewed. CHAIRMAN KELLY noted that he has reviewed Ms. Vogel's resume but he has not interviewed her. He maintained that Ms. Vogel is a very non-political person. SENATOR ELLIS said that he has no reason to think she will not be totally professional in the position of Senate Secretary, and if other committee members feel the same way, he is comfortable with her appointment. SENATOR PEARCE pointed out that Nancy Quinto has recommended Ms. Vogel. There being no objection to the motion, CHAIRMAN KELLY stated the committee would forward Ms. Vogel's name to the full Senate for consideration. There being no further business to come before the committee, CHAIRMAN KELLY adjourned the meeting at 1:15 p.m.
