SENATE RULES COMMITTEE Anchorage, AK October 20, 1998 2:10 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT Senator Tim Kelly, Chair Senator Loren Leman, Vice Chair Senator Robin Taylor (Participated via teleconference) Senator John Torgerson (Participated via teleconference) MEMBERS ABSENT Senator Jim Duncan COMMITTEE CALENDAR PROFESSIONAL SERVICES CONTRACT ASSIGNMENT AND AMENDMENT FOR RON SOMERVILLE ACTION NARRATIVE TAPE 98-9, SIDE A CHAIRMAN KELLY called the Senate Rules Committee meeting to order at 2:10 p.m. Present were Senators Leman and Kelly, with Senators Torgerson and Taylor participating in the meeting via the teleconference network. Ted Popely, project director, was also in attendance. CHAIRMAN KELLY stated the only order of business before the committee was the renewal of the contract between the House and Senate leadership and Ron Somerville. He explained Mr. Somerville had been on contract through August 1998, and Senate President Miller has written a letter requesting the contract be extended through January 19, 1999. Mr. Somerville is being paid at Range 21, with expenses not to exceed $3,000. The expenses, to date, for the 1998 calendar year total approximately $1,000. He added that Speaker Phillips and President Miller are in favor of the contract extension. SENATOR LEMAN moved adoption of the professional services contract assignment and amendment for Ron Somerville. Senators Torgerson, Taylor, Leman and Kelly all voted "Yea." CHAIRMAN KELLY stated the motion carried. There being no further business to come before the committee, the meeting adjourned at approximately 2:20 p.m.
