SENATE RULES COMMITTEE Fairbanks, AK September 12, 1996 1:02 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT Senator Mike Miller, Chair Senator Drue Pearce, Vice Chair Senator Judy Salo MEMBERS ABSENT Senator Bert Sharp Senator Jim Duncan COMMITTEE CALENDAR -- APPROVAL OF AMENDMENTS TO PROFESSIONAL SERVICES CONTRACTS ACTION NARRATIVE TAPE 96-13, SIDE A Number 001 CHAIRMAN MILLER called the Senate Rules Committee meeting to order in the Fairbanks Legislative Information Office at 1:02 p.m. Senator Pearce and Senator Salo were participating in the meeting via the teleconference network from Anchorage. Present in the Juneau Legislative Information Office were Pam Varni, Executive Director, Legislative Affairs Agency, and Mary Gore, committee staff to the Senate Rules Committee. CHAIRMAN MILLER stated the first order of business would be an amendment to the contract for James Martin Johnson extending the date of the contract from March 1, 1996 to February 28, 1997. He noted there was no increase in the dollar amount of the contract. Hearing no discussion, he asked for the pleasure of the committee. SENATOR PEARCE moved approval of the extension to the Johnson contract. A voice vote was taken and Senators Pearce, Salo and Miller all voted in the affirmative. CHAIRMAN MILLER stated the motion carried. CHAIRMAN MILLER stated the next order of business would be an amendment to the contract for Douglas L. Blankenship extending the date of the contract from March 1, 1996 to February 28, 1997. He noted there was no increase in the dollar amount of the contract. Hearing no discussion, he asked for the pleasure of the committee. SENATOR PEARCE moved approval of the extension to the Blankenship contract. A voice vote was taken and Senators Salo, Pearce and Miller all voted in the affirmative. CHAIRMAN MILLER stated the motion carried. CHAIRMAN MILLER stated the last item on the agenda was an amendment to the contract for Charles Meacham, which extends the date of the contract from July 31, 1996 to July 31, 1997, and increases the amount of the contract by $25,000. SENATOR SALO asked if copies of Mr. Meacham's reports are being sent to the members of the committee. SENATOR PEARCE replied that at Senator Duncan's request, Mr. Meacham has been sending copies of his reports to that office. SENATOR SALO said she thinks all committee members dealing with uping the contracts should be looking at those reports as well. CHAIRMAN MILLER agreed and assured her that she would be receiving copies of those reports. He then asked for the pleasure of the committee. SENATOR PEARCE moved approval of the extension and the increase in the amount of the Meacham contract. A voice vote was taken and Senators Salo, Pearce and Miller all voted in the affirmative. CHAIRMAN MILLER stated the motion carried. There being no further business to come before the committee, CHAIRMAN MILLER adjourned the meeting at 1:07 p.m.
