SENATE RULES COMMITTEE March 22, 1993 12:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT Senator George Jacko, Chairman Senator Steve Rieger, Vice Chairman Senator Rick Halford Senator Suzanne Little MEMBERS ABSENT Senator Fred Zharoff COMMITTEE CALENDAR SPONSOR SUBSTITUTE FOR SENATE BILL NO. 71 "An Act relating to emergency medical services; and repealing obsolete references to the Statewide Health Coordinating Council and health systems agencies." PREVIOUS SENATE COMMITTEE ACTION SB 71 - See HESS minutes dated 3/8/93. Finance report 3/22/93. ACTION NARRATIVE TAPE 93-2, SIDE A Number 001 The Senate Rules Committee was called to order by Chairman Jacko at 12:00 p.m. CHAIRMAN JACKO brought SB 71 (EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES SYSTEM) before the committee. However, because the Finance CS was not yet available, he stated the committee would stand in recess for approximately one hour. CHAIRMAN JACKO called the meeting back to order at 1:47 p.m. and stated CSSB 71(FIN) was now before the committee. SENATOR LITTLE asked why the word "shall" had been changed to "may." ANNETTE KREITZER, staff to Senator Loren Leman responded that there had been a federal grant in place for the last four years which had paid for two positions in the Department of Health & Social Services to do some of the work that would have been covered under this bill. After reviewing the fiscal note in the Finance Committee, it was felt it probably would be possible for the department to absorb some of these costs and to do some consolidation within the department to be able to do these things. SENATOR HALFORD moved and asked unanimous consent that SB 71 be approved for calendaring at the Chair's discretion. Hearing no objection, it was so ordered. There being no further business to come before the committee, the meeting was adjourned at 1:49 p.m.
