SENATE COMMITTEE ON COMMITTEES January 11, 1994 11:17 a.m MEMBERS PRESENT Senator Rick Halford Senator Robin Taylor Senator Drue Pearce Senator George Jacko Senator Fred Zharoff ACTION NARRATIVE TAPE 94-1, SIDE A Number 001 Senator Halford called the meeting of the Committee on Committees to order at 11:17 a.m. The purpose of the meeting was to appoint a new Senate Rules Committee chairman to replace Senator George Jacko who resigned as its chairman on January 10, 1994. Number 003 SENATOR TAYLOR moved that Senator Halford be named to replace Senator Jacko as chairman of the Senate Rules Committee. SENATOR ZHAROFF objected for the purpose of making a statement. He said this was an unprecedented move to have the same person as Senate president and chairman of the Rules Committee, and that it goes a little beyond the balance of power when talking about the movement of bills and the calendaring of activities on the floor. He then removed his objection. SENATOR JACKO commented that this is an unprecedented era. Hearing no further objection, SENATOR HALFORD stated the motion carried and that the committee report would reflect the change. Number 020 There being no further business to come before the Committee on Committees, the meeting was adjourned at 11:19 a.m.
