HOUSE SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON TELECOMMUNICATIONS February 11, 1998 4:35 p.m. COMMITTEE CALENDAR JOINT WORK SESSION WITH THE TELECOMMUNICATION INFORMATION COUNCIL POLICY COMMITTEE TAPE(S) 98-02, SIDE(S) A & B CALL TO ORDER Representative Porter, Chairman, convened the work session of the House Special Committee on Telecommunications at 4:35 p.m. PRESENT Committee members present at the call to order were Representatives Porter, Dyson, Ivan and Berkowitz. Representative Kemplen was also in attendance. SUMMARY OF INFORMATION CHAIRMAN PORTER gave an overview of the issues discussed at the committee's December hearing and opened the floor up for general discussion, comments and/or questions. LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR FRAN ULMER introduced the Telecommunications Information Council (TIC) Policy Committee; she also discussed subsidies for schools and rural health care providers and the FCC Advisory Committee. ANNALEE McCONNELL, Director, Office of Management and Budget, Office of the Governor, addressed the year 2000 problem. MARK BOYER, Commissioner, Department of Administration, talked about using technology to deliver services. ANDY KLINE, Special Staff Assistant, Office of the Lieutenant Governor, spoke on standards for government systems. COMMITTEE ACTION The committee took no action. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 5:24 p.m. NOTES: Three hard copy handouts were distributed in this work session.
