Representatives Vance and Kurka arrived as the meeting was in progress. HB 17-DISCRIMINATION: GENDER ID.;SEXUAL ORIENT.  1:24:07 PM CHAIR CLAMAN announced that the only order of business would be HOUSE BILL NO. 17, "An Act adding to the powers and duties of the State Commission for Human Rights; and relating to and prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression." REPRESENTATIVE DRUMMOND shared that she was honored to move the bill from committee. She noted that the Anchorage Municipal Assembly had considered a similar policy in 2009 which eventually became law. She noted that 600 people offered over 30 hours of emotional testimony. REPRESENTATIVE EASTMAN expressed his appreciation of the input from the public. 1:26:26 PM REPRESENTATIVE SNYDER moved to report HB 17 out of committee with individual recommendations and the accompanying fiscal notes.
