Present at the call to order from the House Health, Education and Social Services Standing Committee were Representatives Wilson, Gatto, Heinze, Seaton, Wolf, Cissna, and Kapsner. SUMMARY OF INFORMATION  KEVIN SWEENEY, Special Assistant, Office of the Commissioner, Department of Education and Early Development, made introductory and closing comments and answered questions from committee members. MARK LEAL, Director, Division of Assessment and Accountability, Department of Education and Early Development, gave a PowerPoint presentation on the Alaska Accountability Plan to the new federal education legislation 'No Child Left Behind Act' (NCLB). Mr. Leal responded to specific questions of legislators concerning the NCLB accountability plan and the process for approving the plan. ERIC MADSEN, Ph.D., ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) Administrator, Division of Teaching and Learning Support, Department of Education and Early Development, and administrator for the No Child Left Behind Act, gave an overview of recommended statutory language changes with current requirements, told the members why this is a challenge, and recommended remedies. He also answered questions from committee members. ANNOUNCEMENTS  There were no announcements. COMMITTEE ACTION  The committee took no action.
