ALASKA STATE LEGISLATURE  HOUSE SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION March 7, 2001 8:02 a.m. COMMITTEE CALENDAR  PRESENTATION BY JUNEAU SCHOOL DISTRICT ON THEIR PREPARATIONS FOR THE COMPETENCY TEST TAPES  01-12 SIDES A & B 01-13 SIDE A CALL TO ORDER  REPRESENTATIVE CON BUNDE, Chair, convened the House Special Committee on Education at 8:02 a.m. PRESENT  Committee members present were Representatives Bunde, Wilson, Stevens, and Guess. SUMMARY OF INFORMATION  PEGGY COWAN, Assistant Superintendent, Juneau School District (JSD), presented information on how JSD is preparing for the high school competency exam. Her presentation included a background of JSD including district demographics and success on state exams. She provided information on JSD's standards support system, strategic plan, core content as well as their assessment system. She also responded to questions asked by the committee members. STEPHANIE HOAG, Curriculum Coordinator, Juneau School District, presented information on JSD's accountability plans. She also responded to questions asked by the committee members CHARLA WRIGHT, Instructional Services Coordinator, Juneau School District was present to answer questions from the committee. ANNOUNCEMENTS  The next meeting will be on March 14, 2001 at 8:00 a.m. The committee will be hearing HB 94 as well as HB 71. COMMITTEE ACTION  The committee took no action.
