ALASKA STATE LEGISLATURE  HOUSE SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON ECONOMIC  DEVELOPMENT, TRADE AND TOURISM February 6, 2001 5:04 p.m.   COMMITTEE CALENDAR  DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, ALASKA SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY FOUNDATION TAPES  01-5, SIDES A & B CALL TO ORDER  REPRESENTATIVE LESIL McGUIRE, Chair, convened the House Special Committee on Economic Development, Trade and Tourism meeting at 5:04 p.m. PRESENT  Committee members present were Representatives McGuire, Green, James, Dyson, Crawford, and Guess. SUMMARY OF INFORMATION  DR. JAMES KENWORTHY, Executive Director, Alaska Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF), Department of Community and Economic Development, provided an overview of the ASTF. He described in detail the results of a business survey that was conducted with hopes of finding out Alaskans' perspectives on economic and social issues that impact the state. REPRESENTATIVE DYSON asked questions regarding workers, their skills, and related subjects. He inquired about the opportunity for wealth in shell-fish farming and also about sustainable electricity rates. REPRESENTATIVE JAMES commented on findings, asking how to get this message to Alaskans. REPRESENTATIVE GREEN asked if there was a specific way that legislators could help, or stop hindering, progress. ANNOUNCEMENTS  There were no announcements. COMMITTEE ACTION The committee took no action.
