ACTION NARRATIVE 9:05:14 AM CO-CHAIR ANDI STORY called the House Education Standing Committee meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. Representatives Cronk, Gillham, Hopkins, Drummond, Zulkosky (via teleconference), and Story were present at the call to order. SB 36-U OF A REGENTS REPORTING REQUIREMENTS 9:06:01 AM CO-CHAIR STORY announced that the only order of business would be CS FOR SENATE BILL NO. 36(EDC), "An Act relating to reporting requirements of the Board of Regents of the University of Alaska." 9:06:44 AM TIM LAMKIN, Staff, Senator Gary Stevens, Alaska State Legislature, offered a final statement for CSSB 36(EDC) on behalf of Senator Stevens, prime sponsor. He recapped that CSSB 36(EDC) addresses the loss of accreditation at the University of Alaska - Anchorage School of Education in 2019. He said other reporting requirements are "on the books," and the proposed legislation "would add a component to that reporting to ... the [accreditation] status of their various programs." 9:07:40 AM CO-CHAIR DRUMMOND asked about fiscal impact. MR. LAMKIN explained that existing Board of Regents policy requires that the administration provide "regular reports on this very subject"; therefore, the provision for reporting under CSSB 36(EDC) simply would be added to the existing requirements. 9:08:21 AM CHAD HUTCHINSON, Director, State Relations, University of Alaska, confirmed there would be no fiscal impact resulting from CSSB 36(EDC) because it would require just one more presentation to the legislature at no cost. 9:09:03 AM CO-CHAIR DRUMMOND moved to report CSSB 36(EDC) out of committee with individual recommendations and the accompanying fiscal notes. There being no objection CSSB 36(EDC) was reported out of the House Education Standing Committee. 9:09:43 AM The committee took an at-ease from 9:09 a.m. to 9:12 a.m. 9:12:13 AM CO-CHAIR STORY discussed committee plans for the following week. 9:13:59 AM ADJOURNMENT There being no further business before the committee, the House Education Standing Committee meeting was adjourned at 9:14 a.m.
