ALASKA STATE LEGISLATURE  HOUSE COMMUNITY AND REGIONAL AFFAIRS STANDING COMMITTEE February 26, 2002 9:20 a.m. COMMITTEE CALENDAR  OVERVIEW: ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, ALASKA ECONOMIC INFORMATION SYSTEM. TAPES  02-10, SIDE A CALL TO ORDER  Representative Carl Morgan Co-Chair, reconvened the House Community and Regional Affairs Standing Committee to order at approximately 9:20 a.m. [Minutes pertaining to the portion of the meeting relating to legislation can be found in the 8:07 a.m. minutes for the same date.] PRESENT  Committee members present were Representatives Morgan, Meyer, Halcro, Murkowski, Guess, and Kerttula. SUMMARY OF INFORMATION  PETER FREER, Economic Development Project Manager, Division of Community & Economic Development, Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED), presented a PowerPoint overview of the Alaska Economic Information System (AEIS). The presentation was included in the committee packet. Mr. Freer advised the committee that the system is the "first-of-its-kind" and was produced entirely in-house at DCED. He said AEIS will be online in a very short time. JOE MEHRKENS, Economist, Division of Community & Economic Development, Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED), and Mr. Freer discussed the data used in developing AEIS, as well as its potential uses. ANNOUNCEMENTS  REPRESENTATIVE MORGAN announced that at the next meeting, February 28, 2002, the committee would take up HB 358 and HB 296. COMMITTEE ACTION  The committee took no action.
