HB 123-STATE RECOGNITION OF TRIBES  3:35:51 PM CHAIR SHOWER announced the consideration of HOUSE BILL NO. 123 "An Act providing for state recognition of federally recognized tribes; and providing for an effective date." He stated that the committee adopted an amendment during the last hearing and his intention today was to move the bill from committee. He asked Representative Zulkosky if she had any final comments. 3:36:24 PM REPRESENTATIVE TIFFANY ZULKOSKY, Alaska State Legislature, Juneau, Alaska, sponsor of HB 123, said it's been a privilege to carry HB 123 and she appreciated the thoughtful hearings the committee held about what the bill means to the Alaska Native community and the State of Alaska. She opined that strengthening the relationship between the state and tribes was long overdue. CHAIR SHOWER commented that the process cleared up a lot of misconceptions, but he believes there is more work to be done.
