SENATOR HALFORD moved to calendar SB 242-CONCEALED HANDGUN  PERMITTEES. CHAIRMAN PHILLIPS asked if any states do not require fingerprint- based criminal record checks. MR. DARRYL THOMAS, staff to Senator Taylor, sponsor of SB 242, said some states do not. SENATOR THERRIAULT arrived. MS. JENNIFER YUHAS, staff to Representative Masek, informed the committee that three states do not require fingerprinting for criminal record checks, however they do require extensive background checks. The National Rifle Association (NRA) has testified that it is satisfied with the background checks. CHAIRMAN PHILLIPS took a hand count of those in favor of calendaring SB 242 and announced that the motion carried, 4 to 0.
