HB 8-ENFORCEMENT OF FOREIGN PROTECTIVE ORDERS 1:32:56 PM CHAIR COGHILL announced the consideration of HB 8. He summarized that the bill broadens the authority for protective orders regarding sexual assault and domestic violence. The previous committee added a section that said that in compliance with the Violence Against Women's Act, the name of the person filing the petition would not appear on CourtView. The court indicated that it would not put both name on CourtView for a variety of reasons. He asked if the sponsor agreed with that amendment. 1:34:19 PM TIM CLARK, Staff, Representative Bryce Edgmon, Alaska State Legislature, sponsor of HB 8 said the sponsor believes that while the amendment raises an important issue, it is problematic for the bill. "It has created opposition to a bill that before enjoyed wide support among the stakeholders." The sponsor believes that issue should be the subject of standalone legislation. 1:36:22 PM CHAIR COGHILL found no questions. He closed public testimony on HB 8 and asked the will of the committee. 1:36:32 PM SENATOR COSTELLO moved to report the Senate CS for HB 8(CRA) from committee with individual recommendations and attached fiscal note(s). CHAIR COGHILL announced that without objection, SCS HB 8(CRA) is reported from the Senate Judiciary Standing Committee.
