SB 294-CONCEALED HANDGUN PERMIT AMENDMENTS CHAIRMAN TAYLOR noted that CSSB 294, version G, was adopted during the March 29 Judiciary Committee meeting and testimony was taken at that time. Mr. ROY E. HOYT, Jr., resident of Homer Alaska, said that it might be wise to require a two hour refresher course on current law when a person is applying for a renewal permit. Concerning reciprocity, Mr. Hoyt thinks that Alaska should recognize any state that has a valid permit. CHAIRMAN TAYLOR said that if Alaska laws are broad enough, reciprocity will occur. SENATOR TORGERSON asked if the language in CSSB 294 is inclusive enough. CHAIRMAN TAYLOR responded yes, but he does not want to see it used in a negative fashion. CHAIRMAN TAYLOR noted that amendment 1 was adopted at the last meeting and the sponsor of the bill has asked for it to be withdrawn. SENATOR HALFORD moved to withdraw amendment 1. There being no objection, amendment 1 was withdrawn. SENATOR HALFORD moved CSSB 294 from committee with individual recommendations. There being no objection, the motion carried.
