HB 298-ALASKA FOOD STRATEGY TASK FORCE 3:30:32 PM CHAIR HUGHES announced the consideration of CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 298(CRA) am "An Act establishing the Alaska Food Strategy Task Force; and providing for an effective date." [SCS CSHB 298, work order 32-LS1398\I, was before the committee.] CHAIR HUGHES asked the sponsor if she had any closing remarks on HB 298. 3:30:52 PM REPRESENTATIVE LIZ SNYDER, Alaska State Legislature, Anchorage, Alaska, sponsor of HB 298, thanked the committee for its work on the bill and said she was happy to answer any remaining questions. 3:31:06 PM CHAIR HUGHES commented that HB 298 dovetails nicely with the governor's work on food security, picking up where that project left off. Boondoggles and mega projects have failed in the past and the legislature does not want that to happen again. To that end, HB 298 makes a concerted effort to include industry participation. She noted her initial concern about the size of the Alaska Food Strategy Task Force but said she now believes it will work because the executive committee has just nine members. CHAIR HUGHES found no further questions or comments and solicited the will of the committee. 3:31:48 PM SENATOR MYERS moved to report HB 298, work order 32-LS1398\I, from committee with individual recommendations and attached zero fiscal note(s). 3:32:07 PM CHAIR HUGHES found no objection and SCS CSHB 298(CRA) was reported from Senate Community and Regional Affairs Standing Committee.
