ACTION NARRATIVE 3:36:39 PM CHAIR CLICK BISHOP called the Senate Community and Regional Affairs Standing Committee meeting to order at 3:36 p.m. Present at the call to order were Senators Hoffman, Gardner, and Chair Bishop. HCR 19-GOVERNOR: AK NATIVE LANGUAGES EMERGENCY 3:37:24 PM CHAIR BISHOP announced consideration of HCR 19, its second hearing. [CSHCR 19(CRA)am, version 30-LS1402\R.A, was before the committee.] 3:37:50 PM REPRESENTATIVE ORTIZ thanked the chair for hearing this bill again. This declaration came from the recommendations put forward by the Alaska Native Language Preservation Advisory Council (ANLPAC). It requests the Governor to address the growing concern about the disappearance of Native languages and to put forward an emergency plan on how the state might help facilitate that issue. SENATOR GARDNER said language is also culture and a way of thinking. So, when that is lost, you really do lose information and understanding. That is why this is important. SENATOR HOFFMAN moved to report CSHCR 19(CRA)am from committee with individual recommendations and attached fiscal note. There were no objections and it was so ordered. 3:40:02 PM At ease 3:41:34 PM CHAIR BISHOP called the meeting back to order and announced that SB 18 would not be heard today. He adjourned the Senate Community and Regional Affairs Committee meeting at 3:41 p.m.
