HB 8-PIPE FOR A NATURAL GAS PIPELINE    CHAIR P. WILSON announced that the final order of business would be HOUSE BILL NO. 8, "An Act relating to the purchase of pipe for use in a natural gas pipeline project under the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act." 3:00:36 PM KEN ALPER, Staff, Representative Harry Crawford, Alaska State Legislature, stated on behalf of the sponsor, Representative Harry Crawford, that this bill would empower the DOT&PF commissioner to buy the physical pipe for the in state section of the natural gas pipeline. Approximately 800 miles of 48-inch pipe would be purchased and stockpiled as a visual reminder for the necessity of the state to move forward on the pipeline. Once the project moved forward, the pipe could be sold at cost or could be contributed as an equity position on the pipeline. He related that action would make money for the state.
